About the Program 

Youthaven is a Youth Crisis Accommodation facility for young people 15-17 years of age. We provide emergency accommodation and an emphasis on life skills, learning to be independent and family reunification if possible.  

As a partner within the Country North Homelessness Alliance, we endeavour to provide a safe and supportive living environment for young people in need, through services that are provided with dignity, encouragement, respect and open communication.

You Will:

  • Have a commitment to, and an understanding of, youth issues particularly in relation to youth homelessness.

    • Have strong relationship building and communication skills.

    • Possess initiative, flexibility and a willingness to contribute to the development of the service.

It is essential for you to: 

  • Hold or be able to obtain a current Department of Human Services (DHS) Child Related Employment Screening Clearance or a DHS Working with Children Check. The position is subject to this clearance. 

  • Be able to obtain a suitable outcome of a psychological suitability assessment (psychometric testing)   

  • Hold a current driver’s license 

  • To be available to be rostered to work weekday and weekends, after hours including sleep over and on-call periods.  

 It is desirable for you to have:

  • Certificate IV or above in Youth Work or Human Services related discipline.

  • Current First Aid Certificate 

  • Current Safe Environments for Children and Young People training certificate. 

  • Two (2) years or more of relevant experience, in a paid or voluntary capacity.

  • Experience working with people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and Aboriginal /Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) backgrounds.
